Doubling Your Sales Through Referrals

word of mouth referrals are excellent for bringing in new business
Are you already receiving more referrals than you can handle? Most likely not. Below we have listed some strategies to help you build your referrals through introductions.

Don't Fear Asking for Help

Asking for introductions can seem daunting. The only way to get over this fear is to just ask anyway and get over it.  When you do ask though, make sure you phase it in a way that asks for help. Do this because people love to help each other, especially when they already trust and like you. Try something like, “I was wondering if you could help us out.”
Don't Stress if it's a "No"

When you ask for help and someone says "no" it just might be the wrong time.   Let them know that’s okay but if they think of anyone later on, you’d be indebted. Be patient; sometime in the future they might remember you asking for this help and send through an introduction.
Leverage Your Entire Network

Take advantage of your entire list of contacts, especially when it comes to asking for introductions. Don’t limit yourself to just one group in your network like your existing customers. Think broader and question if your past customers, friends, family, industry contacts, social acquaintances, school network, business network can help.

Set a Goal: Ask for One Introduction Per Day

Use this as a way of building your confidence and advertising your business requirements. It might sound like a lot of work at the start but you’ll narrow it down with what works and have it refined so that it only takes you about 15 minutes. It’s also a great way of staying in touch with your network.

You could set up a 3 point check for the process:
  • Check in and see how the person is doing
  • Ask them how’s business
  • Ask if you can do anything for them
  • Ask if they know of any introductions for your business

Be Clear & Specific About Your Introduction

When you’re specific about the introduction you require it makes it easy for someone to think of the right person. If you ask for an introduction think of an easy way to ask for that introduction such as, “Heah do you know anyone who is a business owner, preferably a plumber close to Melbourne.” Sounds a lot easier to think of someone specific to your needs instead of asking “So do you know anyone who could help me?” this approach puts the burden on the person to help you which makes it pressured and awkward.
Host Exclusive Invitation-Only Events

The best way to attract new customers is through an exclusive-only event. Ensure the event feels exclusive and invite high-level prospects. By inviting both customers and prospects, your best customers will begin to sell for you. Ask those at the event if they know of anyone who might get value from your event.

Remember to keep investing in your pipeline to attract new clients on a regular basis.
